Why does tirzepatide make your urine smell?
The label does not describe urine odor at all, so this is reasoning from what the drug does, not a trial result. Three things happen together on tirzepatide. First, your appetite drops, and most people drink less without noticing. Concentrated urine smells stronger. Second, when you eat much less, your body burns stored fat, and that produces ketones. Ketones can give urine a sweet or sharp smell. Third, less food means a different mix of what ends up in urine. None of this is dangerous on its own. The label says that people who have nausea, vomiting or diarrhea on tirzepatide can lose enough fluid to injure the kidneys, and that this risk is higher in people who already have kidney problems. Low fluid also means you urinate less often, and urinating is how the body clears bacteria from the bladder. So a plausible chain is: less thirst, less fluid, less flushing, more chance for an infection to take hold. The label does not measure this chain. It only warns about the kidney part. Drink on a schedule rather than by thirst, because thirst fades on this drug. Water is fine; you do not need anything special unless your prescriber says so. Check the color: pale yellow is the goal, dark yellow means drink more. Do not hold urine for long stretches.
